NeurIPS 2022 Call for Post-Conference Workshops

Fri 2 Dec and Sat 3 Dec, 2022 (In-person)
Fri 9 Dec (Virtual)

Submit at: https://openreview.net/group?id=NeurIPS.cc/2022/Workshop_Proposals

** Workshop Application Deadline EXTENDED to June 6 11:59pm AoE **

Following the NeurIPS 2022 main conference, workshops on a variety of current topics will be held. A notable aspect of this year is that we support both in-person and virtual workshops: a workshop can be either in-person (on Fri 2 Dec and Sat 3 Dec) or virtual (on Fri 9 Dec). We will provide more details in Guidance for NeurIPS 2022 Workshop Proposals.

We invite researchers interested in organizing these workshops to submit proposals. Workshop organizers have several responsibilities, including coordinating workshop participation and content, publicizing and providing the program in a timely manner, and moderating the program throughout the workshop.

Goal of NeurIPS Workshops

Workshops provide an informal, cutting edge venue for discussion of work in progress and future directions. Good workshops have helped to crystallize common problems, explicitly contrast competing frameworks, and clarify essential questions for a subfield or application area. Workshops are a structured means of bringing together people with common interests to form communities. We expect the workshops, in their designated formats, to include some form of community building, and stand apart from other parts of the NeurIPS program, such as Tutorials or Competitions.

For each workshop, approximately 7 hours of session contents are expected, with free time between the sessions for individual exchange. In-person workshops can request additional time within the proposal submission if needed.

Potential workshop topics range from Machine Learning, Neuroscience, Reinforcement Learning, Computational Social Science & Economics, Learning Theory, Robotics, Probabilistic Models and Inference, Computer Vision, Speech, Natural Language Processing, Emerging Applications for Machine Learning, and Societal Impacts of Artificial Intelligence, as well as any other topic relevant to an appreciable fraction of the NeurIPS community. Detailed descriptions of previous workshops may be found in last year’s online schedule.

Workshop schedules should encourage lively debates, stimulate the production of new ideas and the discussion of controversial issues. To this end, workshop proposals should be designed to attract a medium-sized audience.

Every group considering submitting a workshop must read the NeurIPS 2022 Guidance for Workshop Proposals, which describes the philosophy behind hosting workshops, new formatting requirements, including hybrid considerations, details of the selection criteria and process, what is considered a conflict of interest, and other frequently asked questions.

Funding

NeurIPS does not provide travel funding for workshop organizers or speakers. In the past, some workshops have sought and received funding from external sources to bring in outside speakers. The organizers of each accepted in-person workshop can name up to 6 individuals to receive complimentary in-person registration; the organizers of each accepted virtual workshop can name up to 15 individuals to receive complimentary virtual registration. Additional support for NeurIPS 2022 workshops held as virtual or in-person will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
