NeurIPS 2021 Call For Demonstrations

We invite the submission of demonstrations to the Neural Information Processing Systems 2021 (NeurIPS 2021) demonstrations track. Accepted demonstrations will be presented in a virtual forum, in parallel to the main conference.

Demonstrations offer a unique opportunity to showcase work, including but not limited to:

  • Interactive applications of learning algorithms

  • Dialog and conversational AIs

  • Learning from demonstration

  • Real-time visualization of learning models

  • Hardware technology

  • Algorithmic art and creative AI

  • Generative models for audio or video

  • Robotics

Demonstrations must show novel technology and must run online during the conference. Unlike poster presentations or slide shows, interaction with the audience is a critical element. Therefore, the creativity of demonstrators to propose new ways in which interaction and engagement can fully leverage this year’s virtual conference format will be particularly relevant for selection.

SUBMISSIONS

Demonstration proposals must be submitted via CMT at:

https://cmt3.research.microsoft.com/DEMONeurIPS2021

You are asked to submit an extended abstract which describes:

  • the technology demonstrated

  • the elements of novelty

  • the audience-interactive part

  • any special needs or equipment required to run the demo virtually

  • A concrete description of how the demo will run virtually, please be creative!! Examples are provided for inspiration below.

Please follow the standard NeurIPS 2021 LaTeX template when preparing the extended abstracts and ensure that all information listed above is included in your extended abstract. The page limit is 2 pages, excluding references. Demo reviews are single-blind, i.e., demo proposal submissions do not have to be anonymized.

Submissions will be refereed based on technical quality, novelty, and potential for interaction, with a special focus on interaction in a virtual conference setting.

IMPORTANT DATES

  • Demonstration Submission Deadline: Aug 27, 2021 AOE (anywhere on earth)
  • Acceptance Notification: Oct 7, 2021 AOE (anywhere on earth)

NOTE ON VIRTUAL DEMONSTRATIONS

This year, like last year, the conference will be completely virtual. This makes some types of demonstrations harder to achieve, while it has the potential to make other kinds of demonstrations more interesting and accessible. We encourage submissions that creatively explore the unusual format. Some examples of virtual demonstration formats include:

  • Interactive papers, including code and real-time visualizations.

  • Websites asking for inputs (e.g., photos, audio, text, videos, etc.) from virtual attendees to use it for the demo.

  • Technical overviews using e.g. videos for demonstrating interesting applications of AI.

  • Physical/Hardware/Robotics demos.

  • Algorithmic art or other applications of AI for creative expression.

In addition to the virtual demonstration, there will be one or more interactive Q&A sessions where demonstration organizers can showcase their technology to conference attendees.
