Two Postdoctoral Positions
Elucidating the neurobiological and physiological control principles of brain-body interactions
Jazayeri and Wang Labs, MIT
The Position Two postdoctoral positions are available in the Jazayeri and Wang lab to join a new research project to elucidate the neurobiological, physiological and computational control principles of brain-body interactions.
The Project Wang’s lab has a longstanding research program focused on the neurobiology of brain-body interactions in mice. Jazayeri’s lab has worked extensively on how the brain instantiates internal models for cognition using a combination of experimental work and control theory. This project, which draws from expertise in the two labs aims to bring together experimental work in humans, nonhuman primates, and rodents with theoretical and computational work based in the theory of control systems to develop a deep understanding of the control principles that govern the neurobiology and physiology of bidirectional brain-body interactions. The project is an excellent launching pad for a research career in academia or industry at the bleeding edge of embodied neuroscience.
Your Primary Role This is a team project with two postdocs and possibly additional graduate students. We are looking for highly motivated and talented individuals to work as part of a team with multidisciplinary expertise in neurobiology, body physiology, engineering, and modeling. All team members may be active contributor to all aspects of the science. Here are some example problems you may work on:
· Perform behavioral and/or physiology experiments in humans, monkeys, or rodents. · Analyze large-scale data recorded from experimental subjects. · Develop a control-theoretic model constrained by experimental measurements in the brain and body.

The applicant is expected to have demonstrated background in at least two of the following fields: systems neuroscience, neurotechnology, computational neuroscience, machine learning. Strong analytical and coding skills are necessary. Prior research on the neurobiology of brain-body interactions is highly valued.
The position is intended for 3 years or more and will be renewed annually. The salary will be determined based on merit. Individuals who have faced unexpected career challenges are highly encouraged to apply.

The expected annual base salary for this position is $200,000–$300,000. Our compensation package also includes variable compensation. The applicable annual base salary paid will be determined based on multiple factors. As an AI Researcher, you will be an integral member of a team of experienced technologists, researchers, quants and traders. You will collaborate closely with two other researchers to solve challenging AI and machine learning problems. Your projects will vary depending on priorities at the start of your employment and could include AI for time series modeling or developing large language models (LLMs). Key Responsibilities: Algorithm Development: Creating and testing new AI models and algorithms to solve specific problems or improve existing methods. Data Engineering: Building data pipelines for model training and evaluation, including data collection, cleaning, preprocessing, and labeling, while contributing to better data management practices. Model Testing & Evaluation: Designing and implementing rigorous testing frameworks to assess model performance and identify areas for improvement. Collaboration: Working closely with team members to establish and refine research methodologies, promoting peer reviews, testing, and thorough documentation. Research & Learning: Staying updated on the latest AI techniques and advancements, sharing insights, and actively bringing improvements to research processes.
Required Skills and Qualifications: PhD in artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer science, or a related field graduating between December 2024 and June 2025. Strong foundation in AI concepts. Strong knowledge of machine learning. Solid technical and programming skills (Python, Java, GitHub). Familiarity with machine learning framework (Spark, PyTorch, etc.). Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Deep interest in financial markets.
Preferred Skills: Experience with NLP tasks Knowledge of TensorFlow or PyTorch. Basic understanding of MLOps principles (monitoring, versioning, model serving).
